started in the fitness industry in 1979, as a commission-only salesperson in a large club in South Florida. Working with Ray Gordon, his future partner, they successfully increased the sales by 560% in six months.
After 18 months of successful monthly growth and an article in National Racquetball about what they had done; they began working with clubs throughout North America.
The first Club’s sales were increased by 450% in six-weeks and the creation of the Sales Makers System of Membership sales began…
Since then, I’ve presented at countless conferences globally, worked with hundreds of Clubs, trained thousands of Sales Makers and been responsible for millions of membership sales. Sales Makers went International in 1989 when we began work in the UK and Sweden.
IHRSA acknowledged Sales Makers International in 2001 as one of twenty companies that has contributed to the growth of the Fitness Industry. In 2006, IHRSA appointed me as a Scandinavian Ambassador – with the goal of increasing the membership of the Association.
This is when I created what I call the RoadShow. I took four of my A-list Presenterfriends on the road with me and we staged a mini-conference show in different countries (Stockholm – then Helsinki, two days later, then Oslo, then Copenhagen, then Copenhagen, then Lithuania – you get the idea.) These events were free for IHRSA members and cost €195 (and they got a free six-month trial IHRSA membership). The premise being that a major benefit of being a member of IHRSA was the education and the networking.
In 2007 I was appointed to the European Council of IHRSA and I remain involved in the HFA (Health and Fitness Association – formerly IHRSA) to this day.
In 2017 I realised that with the onset of technology I no longer needed to take my fellow Presenters on the road – but I could take them to one place and stream them LIVE (but also record them for posterity). The 1st VirtualRoadShow.online Conference was staged at the Al Corniche Club in Kuwait in December of 2017. Alan Leach, Dr Paul Bedford, Bryan O’Rourke, Michael Scott Scudder and Colin Milner shared their knowledge with the Virtual audience.
I learned from that 1st Conference and took the VirtualRoadShow.online into a TV Studio in the UK, in 2018 – where we had control of the audio, the lighting and a Studio Audience. Dr Mark Slavin, Justin Tamsett, Sandy Coffman, Adrian Marks and Frank Furness shared their knowledge with the Virtual audience. This event reached thousands and was much better. There were plans made to produce three more in 2018, but; I had to retire from presenting and travelling in July 2018 due to health issues and then the onset of Covid in 2019.
I had a lot of time to think over those years – I was upset that all this upheaval in the world meant Clubs were struggling and the existing staff and new staff didn’t have anywhere to learn how to recover and improve the fiscal fitness of their business. I decided that I had the contacts, I had a vision and thus I created…. VirtualRoadShow.APP

I began my career as a tennis pro, coaching juniors of varying abilities. I discovered I had a gift for quickly assessing natural abilities. Instinctively, I realized that focusing on a player’s strengths rather than weaknesses provided instant gratification and confidence leading to more enthusiasm and effort and a virtuous cycle of steady improvement. This also set them up for success in their future academic/vocational pursuits. I was viewed as the top junior coach in Iowa with kids coming from all over the to train with me and many earning tennis scholarships.
As a business leader I apply these same principles while coaching and mentoring my direct reports. Playing to their strengths has fostered confidence and trust inspiring them to strive for excellence.My favorite pastime is endurance training, having completed 40 marathons including 3 Boston Marathons. Marathon training requires similar character traits to that of leading a business: Vision, goalsetting, commitment, perseverance, tenacity, overcoming adversity. In a marathon, as in business, you inevitably face setbacks: Injuries, illnesses, discouragement. You must overcome these obstacles and fight through the pain/anxiety on race day to reach the finish line, refusing to quit. My years of training and competition helped me become a more confident, determined, and effective leader. Another core competency I possess centers around listening, empathy, and diplomacy. I credit this to my upbringing and to Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
During my tenure with The Houstonian, our leadership team put 700 employees through this three-day course. I facilitated the class dozens of times. Habits 4 and 5, Think Win:Win and Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood, stuck with me. I have leaned on them ever since. I have led all facets of luxury resort, private equity club, high-end residential, golf, and upscale athletic club operations. Career achievements include co-leading the turnaround of The Houstonian Hotel, Club, and Spa from bankruptcy to $15MM in annual EBITDA and authoring/publishing “Caring (The Sequel): Valuable Insights into Effective Club and Hospitality Management” with a five-star rating on Amazon and cited by leading industry publications.

Unfortunately two weeks after this aired on the 1st VirtualRoadShow in Kuwait City - he passed away on the operating table for routine surgery. This is my way of keeping his memory alive.

is a Swedish bodybuilder and entrepreneur in the Fitness industry. He was ranked third in the world and won the Swedish championships every year between 1973 and 1983. In 1974 he came first in the junior class in Mr Europe, while Ehrling Wahlgren took first place in Mr Europe in the middle class for seniors. He is a trained gymnastics director with a degree from the School of Gymnastics and Sports in Stockholm.
Ulf founded his first gym on Atlasgatan in Stockholm in 1983. It laid the foundation for the World Class gym chain and self-designed training equipment and clothing.
His latest book is: 'No-one Cries for You' is now available in English.
He's currently working from Africa on a new book: 'Warriors Aging with Passion' will be released next year.
